A brief look at the university - Bryant and Stratton
I have looked at many different universities in the course of researching materials for my university site here, where I evaluate universities. And so it was with a little surprise that I came across a phrase that I needed to check out - proprietary college. As it turns out, that technical term just means that the college in question is for-profit, but for-profit in the sense that it is run by business interests who are owners or investors rather than government officials or by boards. Bryant and Stratton college is such a proprietary college. It actually started life not as a university but as a business institute to provide workplace education. Bryant and Stratton college is now an official university that grants degrees, and is accredited. There are currently no known major controversies surrounding Bryant and Stratton college, even though many other colleges that are run for-profit or run as proprietary colleges are known to have some controversies, according to Wikipedia. Bryant and Stratton college is apparently one of the better run colleges and has no problems.
Bryant and Stratton college has many campuses in the USA, in particular in New York, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Within each place there are many other campuses and many physical sites where the colleges are located. In addition, Bryant and Stratton college has the Bryant and Stratton Online site, which is their internet portal for online degrees and online education.
If you are interested in the physical campuses of Bryant and Stratton college, bear in mind that they have at least 15 different campuses and these are spread out - so it might be a good idea to check out which campus is nearest to your location, if you are in the USA. Why you should study there and my personal recommendations
Here are some reasons given by Bryant and Stratton Online why one would study there:
you can earn more money with their degrees and professional certifications; there is a lot of flexibility; Bryant and Stratton Online has the best experience, in terms of the IT fields and business; there is an easy learning format that helps you study and achieve the best that you can possibly be; there are good academic advisors who will help you through your online degree each step of the way; there will be active learning with real world and real life experiences, thanks to the career focused format, and many other usual good reasons why one might consider an online education. These reasons may persuade you to study there depending on your needs and your requirements. I would think that IT might be a key reason for studying for a degree with Bryant and Stratton Online degrees, as IT is one of the major fields that they do.
I would say that more research is required, and Bryant and Stratton Online is quite a viable choice for associate degrees and bachelors degrees, but is clearly out of the running for masters and doctorates. As for certificate programmes, I think that this is one of the better universities, so it might be worth a long hard look. Bryant and Stratton has no known problems and no known controversies, so at least that does not pose a problem. Overall, I would say that Bryant and Stratton Online is fine, and might be worth your time and effort, cheers!

The George Washington University (GW) is a private coed university based in Washington D.C. in the USA. It has a long and distinguished history from 1821 and is located near the White House in Washington. George Washington University has three main physical campuses, Foggy Bottom, Mount Vernon and Ashburn. There are also other satellite sectors and smaller campuses controlled and run by George Washington University. The George Washington University is established, very well run and there are no known controversies surrounding the university. There are, however, several charges of pornography and other smaller problems and controversies in the diverse co curricula activities and student associations at George Washington University, but those are not major and have nothing to do with the university. In addition, according to Wikipedia, George Washington University is famous for its international affairs, international business, political science and political communications programmes at the undergraduate level and diverse fields in postgraduate studies.
The George Washington University has also been ranked highly as the top 10 universities for all sorts of accolades, from Best in the Northeast to College with a Conscience. The history of the university and its current management are excellent. However, all these come with a price: apparently, the George Washington University is the most expensive university in the USA for all undergraduate studies. At the same time, the George Washington University also gives out the most needs-based financial assistance and scholarships in the entire USA. All these facts are based on Wikipedia, however, elearners.com suggests that the tuition fees while steep are still comparable to private universities. It is a commonly acknowledged fact that private universities are more expensive than public and state funded universities.
George Washington University Online is the online wing of the George Washington University and offers online degrees. All the programmes and degrees at George Washington University Online and the university itself are accredited.
Which courses are offered at George Washington University Online
There are not many courses offered at George Washington University Online. The three main masters offered are: health care, masters of science in project management, and masters of tourism administration. Data is not easily available on the George Washington University Online website and has to be carefully looked for. The other courses offered at George Washington University Online are online certificate programmes to do with education, and everything related to education, from e-learning to integrating IT with education, as well as online masters programmes for education, for example, educational leadership and administration, and bilingual special education concentration. Clearly, the main focus for George Washington University Online is to offer online masters programmes. There are mainly masters degree programmes and certificate programmes for postgraduate levels.
To summarise: this university has mainly masters programmes and certificates programmes, and to date 2008 has no known associate programmes and bachelors programmes. Perhaps the masters degrees and the masters programmes or certificates are meant for returning students who have studied at the physical campuses? That is my guess.
Finance and other matters at George Washington University Online
As mentioned, costs are high at George Washington University as like any other private university. Nonetheless the aid programmes for finance are: loans, scholarships, work-study, veteran benefits and other outside sources of finance. There is apparently no known channel to get financial aid for tuition fees efficiently and you may have to go from department to department. More research needs to be done. In addition, it seems that the George Washington University focuses more on its physical campuses and the students who study there, rather than online degree students, because more resources are offered for students at the physical campuses. Nonetheless, a cursory glance reveals as true the fact that the George Washington University offers one of the best financial aid programmes in the USA and has high costs. More research into this universitiy needs to be done, if you want to verify Wikipedia and elearners.
Why you should study there and my personal recommendations
George Washington University Online does not seem a very viable option, as at 2008. The reason is that the programme offers and courses are rather limited (2008) and that their university website is primarily for George Washington University students and not those seeking degrees, masters programmes and the like for online programmes, as it our focus. Our focus here is on distance learning, online learning and online degrees. Nonetheless, if you are interested in online degrees, in particular masters degrees in health care, project management and tourism, and postgraduate certification in education, then this may be the university for you. You will have to visit each individual department for their course outlines and their course fees. It seems much better to study at the George Washington University itself, for the experience and the historical culture. As for online degrees and online programmes, do not worry as there are many other choices for degrees, bachelors or masters or MBAs or PhDs, right here on Get Your University Degree Online. It is my personal opinion that I would rather study at the physical campus of George Washington University than go for their online programmes, unless I am doing either health care, project management, tourism or education. These are the only four fields worth doing at the George Washington University in my opinion.
(An aside) Actually, other universities may offer better deals for the fields that the George Washington University offers, so I would recommend taking these courses here with caution. Cheers!

DeVry University Online is part of a larger corporation that has 23 major campuses according to Wikipedia and 3 subsidiary institutions and other service centres and institutions in both the United States and in Canada.
The most important field that DeVry University Online and DeVry Inc. offers is in IT, Information Technology and apparently most of the USA's top IT degree holders are from one or another of DeVry's educational institutions. (In 2001, 5 out of 10 producers of IT graduates of IT degree holders in the USA were from DeVry University campuses, according to Wikipedia).
DeVry University Online offers associate degrees to masters degrees, and in varied fields apart from IT, such as professional studies and business administration. Nonetheless the key and major field for this university or series of university campuses is IT and technology. If you are considering an online degree or accreditation or professional certification from an online university in the field of IT, professional studies and business adminstration, DeVry University Online might be a good choice for you to look up and check up on.
DeVry University Online is accredited, of course, and is separated accredited for its engineering programmes or more specifically its engineering technology programmes. These programmes are accredited on a campus by campus basis by both US and Canadian accreditation boards. If you are considering an online degree in the field of engineering technology, you might want to look this up.
It should be noted that DeVry University Online, part of DeVry Inc., has had several controversies, over class sizes, class educational quality, false advertising and more. These controversies over this online degree institution and the claims of the IT departments and IT programmes are available on the internet and I am unsure or unable to make any judgements regarding the status of those lawsuits and claims. From 1995-2007 there have been many court cases and lawsuits against DeVry University Online but as of 2008 there are no known controversies and no known problems so far. More research would be needed in this area, if you are interested in an online degree from DeVry University. Do be warned and do know how to research up on this university and compare it with others.
Which courses are offered at the university
Depending on the websites that you go to, there are many courses offered and many levels, so here is a basic summary of the online degrees and programmes on offer. DeVry University Online offers online programmes in
Business, Accounting, Network Management, Project Management, Information Technology (its reputed strengths are in IT and technology areas), Computer Engineering Technology and Health Information Technology.
These are the key areas of studies offered at DeVry University Online. DeVry University Online offers associate degrees, bachelors degrees and also masters degrees and professional certification. It should be noted that DeVry University Online primarily offers associate and bachelors degrees and that its masters degree programmes pale in comparison to many other online universities offering masters and offering MBAs.
However, just as mentioned in my introduction on DeVry University Online, it is clear that this university does offer a range of courses for IT and that IT is the strength here, if you want an online degree in this field of expertise.
Finance and other matters
There are many ways to finance your education here at DeVry University Online, from loans to scholarships to military assistance for US military personnel. DeVry University apparently does not let financial problems get in the way of your university education, which seems very commendable for an online degree company. DeVry University Online even has a programme that allows you to find a job while studying with them. This is rather unique because there is no university here on this blog (at this time of writing) that offers a job finding service as part of its educational and finance policies. Also, you should note that DeVry University Online's costs and fees are probably higher than other colleges since it is a private university and a profit university, so you might want to consider the costs and also look out and look around for other universities for online degrees that may be cheaper. Research into more universities before making a choice.
Why you should study there and my personal recommendations
According to DeVry University Online, you should study with them and get your online degree with them because they focus on your educational success, they have accelerated learning and accelerated degree programmes, they have workplace oriented learning (which is the selling point of most online degree programmes anyways), and they have a job search support. I think this is one of the more unique elements of DeVry University Online, the job search programme is very unique and rather useful. I would not strongly recommend DeVry University Online to those who are looking for fields outside IT and technology. However, for computer engineering, for technology, for IT and stuff related to this field, DeVry University Online may be a very viable choice for you to get your online degree and certification from. Perhaps more research into related IT and technology degrees might be warranted before doing anything further. Cheers!
(Side note regarding DeVry University: DeVry University has many campuses around the USA and Canada and might also be worth visiting physically for those who have the time and inclination, but not for the rest of us. Also it is based in both the USA and Canada, quite unlike other more US based firms and companies. Nontheless for online degrees, it doesn't really matter where the university is based or where the educational company is based, because of the nature of online degrees and distance learning and education.)

Charter Oak State College is a liberal arts college in the USA based in Connecticut in a suburban setting. The motto is very intersting: "Degrees without Boundaries" and might offer some suggested insights into the university's policies about distance learning and online university degrees. It is a relatively new college and was established in 1973 primarily for working students and professionals who want to get a degree and higher level qualifications and a higher level education. Charter Oak State College is Connecticut's major online public college and offers online degrees and online qualifications of course. There are many courses and programmes offered for students, and Charter Oak State College offers video and online courses for both online students and distance learners. In fact, Charter Oak State College is primarily a distance learning college and focuses mainly on distance and online learning. This is a key difference and distinction about Charter Oak State College that makes it different from other universities offering online degrees and distance learning, in a sense.
Which courses are offered
In general, there are a few major degrees offered, and there are also a few specialty courses and programmes offered by Charter Oak State College. Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees are offered by Charter Oak State College, as well as Bachelors of Arts and Bachelors of Science degrees. There are also certified professional programmes in Project Management, Computer Security, and Public Safety Administration and other associated and related courses. As for the specialty programmes, new courses and programmes are also offered for the needs of the students and the like such as Home Care nursing and the Pharmacist Refresher Course.
Having a quick look at Charter Oak State College's online website, I found that the course offers for online degrees were mainly limited to education, health and project management. There are degree programmes here at Charter Oak State College for the education, health and project management fields, there are certificate programmes and credential programmes for education, health and project management too, and health care courses and credentials are in a separate category for Charter Oak State College. There seems to be a major focus here on pharmacy. More research and more looking into this type of online education and online qualifications would be necessary, but if you are not doing any degree in pharmacy, education, health and project management, then Charter Oak State College may not be what you are looking for. If you are looking for these subjects and courses and you are in fact a pharmacist, Charter Oak State College's offers of professional accreditation and credentials will be incredible for your career and your occupation.

There are three major fees here: an application fee, a matriculation fee and a graduation fee, for your degree completion for both online degrees and distance learning courses. There are also online tuition fees for the video and the online learning courses. The fees vary from distance learning to online degrees, and also vary according to the level of the university degree. Connecticut residents get a discount on most of the fees and price discrimination works in their favour for both online degrees and distance learning courses.
There are also, of course, financial aid in terms of loans and bursaries and scholarships for Charter Oak State College as per many other USA universities. And there is also an agreement and benefit for US military personnel as well, but this may have been removed. More research is required if you happen to have financial difficulties, because not a lot of information is available from Charter Oak State College.
Why you should study there and my personal recommendations
Charter Oak State College seems to be a rather good university for distance learning and online degrees, but I would recommend it only to people interested in getting either a pharmacy certification, education, health and/or project management degrees. Charter Oak State College seems to be very good in these areas. More research and more exploration is necessary, before a decision is reached.
