Regent University is rather different from most other universities evaluated here on this universities review site. It is a private, co-ed, interdenominational Christian university based in Virginia in the USA. Regent University offers various forms of degrees, from associate degrees to doctoral degrees, in various fields of study. Regent University is also accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and also by the Association of Theological Schools.

It would be nice to say that there are no known controversies for Regent University, however, that is not true. Regent University is not known to be a very good university, as reported by various organisations - the US News and World Report ranked the school of law as Tier 4, the lowest ranking within law school rankings categories. That is not all. Regent University has also low rates of passing in law where students find it difficult to pass the Virginia State Bar exam. Regent University's records in the field of law are very bad.

Basically I conclude that the physical university offers many more courses than those offered to distance learning, and in fact it makes more sense to visit Kettering University to study there, especially for engineers and potential masters students.

Finance and other important matters at Kettering University

With respect to loans and finance matters, these are easily available at Kettering University and the standard scholarships and various US loans programmes are all available here. More research can be done into this simply by visiting Kettering University's website or by calling up their financial aid advisors.

More important is the fact that students can make money as they learn, to the tune of up to $65 000, according to Kettering University's website. The co-op system allows both work and study and therefore makes a lot of financial sense both for the school and for the student as well, and this is a win-win situation for both parties. More research should be done into this as well if you are interested in working and earning money while studying for an engineering degree at Kettering University.

Why you should study at Kettering University and my own personal recommendations and personal opinions

This is the university's take on the matter - why you should study with them. I cannot say that I disagree, because these are all true. I agree with what Kettering University says!

In this post, I will be analysing briefly the University of Surrey and Nottingham Trent University. The University of Surrey offers many courses in various fields, but for me, one of the strengths of the University of Surrey is that it offers professional experiences and skills via hands on training and professional placement.

This hands on training and professional placement is usually paid and offers rather high salaries and will result in experience, as you get to study and work, and hence gain professional skills learning from various experts in many fields, like commerce, industry and the public sector in the UK. I think this unique focus on hands on training and professional placement is one of the distinguishing factors that enables the University of Surrey to be somewhat different from its competitors in the education market. This is a good, strong point that may provide a competitive edge.

The University of Surrey offers both undergraduates and postgraduates good choices for education in many fields.

However, the one major problem is that the University of Surrey has currently no online degrees available, so one would have to travel there in order to study at the University of Surrey. For non-UK students this is not a viable option, and besides, there are online degrees available. Perhaps online university degrees might be available there in the near future.

Nottingham Trent University

Nottingham Trent University, known also as NTU, is not to be confused with Singapore's Nanyang Technical University NTU. Nottingham Trent University is better than Surrey for the purposes of this online university degrees blog because it has more distance learning options and while the University of Surrey is excellent and has great opportunities for working in the UK in established and excellent fields, Nottingham Trent University offers Undergraduate Law and many postgraduate and professional courses from Biomedical science to Real Estate research MSc.

However, it seems that the main focus of distance learning for Nottingham Trent University is law, and so if law is your main focus, this would be a good choice for an online degree in law.

Nottingham Trent University is said to be modern, well in the rankings (although I personally feel that it is one of the middling universities, but since it is from the UK it should be alright) and maybe you would want to consider Nottingham Trent University seriously as one of the distance learning courses available to you.

There is no doubt that one of the more famous distance learning degrees is provided by the University of London, and that it is accredited and recognised. As the advertisement goes, if you cannot go to London, well then let London go to you. The university has both online degree programmes and distance learning options, but the distance learning options are much better due to the range and size. Besides, this university has been doing distance learning programmes since a long time and has established good links worldwide.

UCL and LSE are the two more famous colleges in the University of London - the University College London and the London School of Economics and Political Science. The University of London offers all sorts of diplomas and degrees, from undergraduate to postgraduate, to tailor to the needs of students all over the world.

There are many advantages to learning and studying for the London distance learning degree:

1. high standards since they do not reduce the workload for students

We all know that some university degree courses online cannot be trusted, that there are many spurious online certificates or study programmes that cannot be trusted, and that some unknown universities offer online degrees that are not recognised. However, no worries, accreditation is one way in which you can be protected against online degrees that are useless or worthless. Accreditation ensures that your online degree has value and will be recognised by employers, who want to hire you.

In the USA, there are 6 main regional accreditation boards that you need to know of:

Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
Western Association of Schools and Colleges
New England Association of Schools and Colleges

The Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) specialises in accrediting distance education institutions and is national as opposed to the abovementioned regional boards.

I think that you should look for accreditation from either one of the regional accreditation boards, or from DETC, as accreditation will make the degree worth doing. Look out for the above accreditation boards and ensure that y0ur university online degree is accredited.

In addition, it should be noted that there is sometimes no difference between an online degree and a degree from a physical campus. Columbia Uni, according to Wikipedia, has no special designation for their degrees, whether online or on campus. Furthermore, nowadays, given the prevalence of online learning (getting a degree via working at the computer and the Internet) and distance learning (studying at home but attending classes), there is no reason for employers to reject applications who get their degrees online. Many US companies will accept online degrees and distance learning programmes, so do not worry about jobs - as long as the degree is accredited.

Beware of degree mills or degree factories, where the fake degrees that they churn out have no academic standing or value or accreditation. These aren't worth working for as they make you pay for a worthless certificate. You want accreditation from a recognised board. Look around instead for good online degrees that have accreditation, since they are recognised.

If the degree is not based in the USA, sorry - but nonetheless the point is still clear. Get an online university degree that is accredited! Look out for national boards that hold high standards.

With the rise of the Internet, as well as the rise of hectic business schedules and work schedules, many people are hard pressed to go back to school formally and invest time and effort to study in a formal setting on campus in order to get a degree. Getting a university degree online is a very viable and important way of accelerating progress, and may be a more practical way of getting a promotion, if the degree is recognised and accredited. Accreditation is an important aspect of getting a degree that is recognised.

At the same time, of course, there are many pitfalls because not all degree programmes are recognised or accredited, and there are so many different and varying offers up online, so this website aims to analyse and compare and contrast various degree programmes and aims to give advice and ideas on what to choose and what not to choose for an online degree programme.
