A bit of history here: Pitt Community College, commonly known as PCC was chartered and designated by the North Carolina State Board of Education as an industrial education centre in March, 1961. The college began its operation as Pitt Industrial Education Centre during the same year. The programs developed and expanded, and in 1964, the school was designated a technical institute by the State Board of Education. The name was changed in July, 1964, to Pitt Technical Institute, and it opened in its new facility, the Vernon E. White Building, in September, 1964, with nine curricula and 96 students. PCC first received school accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1969. In 1979, the North Carolina General Assembly enacted a bill that changed Pitt Technical Institute to Pitt Community College. The change brought about the addition of the two-year University Transfer programs. This information came from the university prospectus and also from Wikipedia sources.

PCC is a two-year accredited institution of higher education and technical training school, and is located approximately five miles south of Greenville, North Carolina, the county seat of Pitt County. Complete the FAFSA. List PCC (School Code = 004062) as the school you’d like to receive your results in Section 5 of the FAFSA.

Receive an email/letter from the U.S. Department of Education confirming that your FAFSA has been processed.

Receive a letter from the PCC Financial Aid Office requesting additional paperwork approximately one to two weeks after submitting your FAFSA. Paperwork requested varies by individual. It’s important to make sure we have your correct mailing address on file. Check with the Registrar’s Office if you’re unsure.

Submit all paperwork/copies requested of you to the PCC Financial Aid Office as soon as possible. You must also make sure you submit all official high school transcripts and official transcripts from any colleges/universities you’ve attended to the Registrar’s Office. Your award cannot be processed until ALL requested documentation including all transcripts has been received.

Allow approximately two weeks for your FA counselor to process your award once you’ve submitted all requested documentation.

Check the Status of your Aid – An award letter will be mailed to you, but you can also check the status of your aid by one of the following options:
Option 1 – Campus Cruiser Account -> PCC Services Tab -> FA Status by Term
Option 2 – Meet with your FA counselor during on-call hours

The range of courses and offerings is one major draw and that might be very useful, and there are many possibilities. Another is that this university is quite famous and well known and hence will be very recognised in its areas. The resources are fairly OK and may be good for learning; there are no known controversies as at 2009. PCC is efficient, friendly and the people generally know their stuff well. Thus it can be seen that there are many factors in its favour that may make you consider this over some other university. Also, the usual arguments in favour of online degrees also hold here. I think that it is worth a consideration and may be very important for your future degree.

It might be interesting to know that the college prides itself for - empowerment, learning, evaluation, discovery and growth. It might also be interesting to note the close relationship the college has with the US military and US military training, and troops.

Barton County Community College is accredited and there are no known controversies surrounding Barton County Community College as at 2008, and it seems to be a very well established college mainly for military personnel, people living in the Kansas area, and now with its main online portal, this college serves the worldwide demand for knowledge, degrees and useful certification.

Which courses are offered at Barton County Community College

Normally, this is easy to write, as a simple glance at the website will reveal to me what courses they offer and the like. However, this college is somewhat different - Barton County Community College does not make a distinction between the degrees and programmes offered from their main ground physical campuses and programmes offered on BARTonline. Hence, here is what the BARTonline site shows:

associate degrees - associate of science, associate of arts, associate of general studies, associate of military studies,

bachelor degrees - degrees in dietary management, hazardous material management, emergency management with emphasis in homeland security, and a certificate in medicine.

When one looks at the courses and programmes offered under each class/type/ particular kind of degree, there are many courses and programmes, such as psychology, English, literature, and of course military studies. The websites make no distinctions between local and international students; no distinction between programmes and modules; no distinction between online degrees and degrees from physical campuses. Nonetheless, Barton County Community College clearly offers mainly associate and basic degrees, and does not specialise in masters or PhDs for their online programme offerings. Clearly, for a basic degree or an associate degree, Barton County Community College might be a good college to check up on and research on.

Barton County Community College has a very important financial aid office, which offers loans, bursaries, scholarships and government grants to soldiers. There are, for instance, activity scholarships, departmental scholarships, trooper bill scholarships for military or DOD civilian ID cardholders, and much much more. All these aid and schemes are easily available to fund either your online education there or an education in a physical campus in the USA. Do remember to check up on the availability and requirements of the various scholarships and loans at Barton County Community College.

Why you should study there and my personal recommendations

Barton County Community College has a focus on the military and therefore might be a good choice if you are looking into a military career or a degree related to the army. Barton County Community College is also a community college mainly focused on US needs and hence if you come from the USA this might be a very good university to consider for your associate degree or bachelors. However, for students seeking masters and doctorates, this college does not seem to offer what you really need. My personal opinion is that Barton County Community College is a rather good college and for a military career one might consider it, but if not, for associate and bachelor degrees, Barton County Community College should be considered only in competition with other colleges and universities. More research is needed. Besides, without masters, doctorates and dedicated distance programmes for postgraduates, this college might be limited to several types of students - those who are from the US military and those who are looking for associate or bachelor degrees. The University of Massachusetts (UMass) refers to the five campus public university system and university network of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We will be referring and looking at the UMassOnline part and aspect of the University of Massachusetts, obviously, since the focus is on online degrees and distance learning here on this blog all about universities and online degrees.

The university system includes many Universities of Massachusetts: University of Massachusetts Amherst (the flagship physical campus and main university of the system and network), University of Massachusetts Boston, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, University of Massachusetts Lowell, and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Therefore it can be easily seen that the University of Massachusetts is not a single university or a single institution, but a conglomerate of universities and various institutions. Our focus for this article will be on the University of Massachusetts Online, the online portal for online degrees and certifications offered by the University of Massachusetts network. UMassOnline or the University of Massachusetts Online is considered exactly the same as any one of the physical campuses in the USA and hence "UMassOnline is UMass" is the welcome message from the University of Massachusetts.

Nonetheless it can be said that the University of Massachusetts Online offers mainly educational and nursing courses, among others. There are many many good offers and many good courses and programmes here at the University of Massachusetts, but I would say that the concentration and expertise seems to be in education and nursing, among others. This is not to say that the others are not good, because the other courses here at the University of Massachusetts are good as well. I would personally seriously consider all the courses and the diversity of the available choices here at the University of Massachusetts.

Finance and other matters at the University of Massachusetts

Tuition and fees vary, but according to the University of Massachusetts, undergrad courses cost about $425 - $1200, and graduate level courses cost around $1390 - $2010. I would say that the tuition fees here at the University of Massachusetts are rather reasonable and comparable to other online universities and degree programmes on offer. The University of Massachusetts itself claims that it offers the best prices and best value for money (according to its many university pages).

Many financial aid schemes are available, the usual being loans, scholarships and financial aid from the US government, as well as grants for GIs in the US military under a bill from the government. The usual grants and loans apply here as they do in other online universities.

Why you should study there and my personal recommendations

There are many good reasons to study here, according to both their website and my own personal opinions. The University of Massachusetts is a good institution to study at overall.

The University of Massachusetts is accredited, very stable and prestigious. The campus degrees and the online degrees are equally considered and they are both indistinguishable. There are many good courses offered here at the University of Massachusetts and they are relevant and useful courses for you. The tuition is afforable and rather comparable, and in addition the usual loans and aid are all there for you.

I would say that this university may be a very good choice, and after you have looked around and done your research, this may still be a proven and rather good choice for you, because of its range of courses, its proven track record, its good and cheap fees with the financial aid as well, and also because it is good for nursing and educational concentrations, among many other subjects. I would strongly recommend it on the basis of the research that I have done, although I will add the usual caution that you need to do more research before making a choice for your online degree and distance learning education.

One again, my own personal opinion on the University of Massachusetts:

The University of Massachusetts is without doubt one of the more reliable, affordable and good universities for various and diverse courses that I have seen so far. While lacking in associate degrees and doctorate choices, for bachelors and masters degrees online, the University of Massachusetts is excellent and offers one of the best choices and prices in the market for online education and distance learning.

Perhaps more research can be done into the finance areas if you need financial assistance, which Drexel Online University will be glad to offer as you will eventually be a part paying student. Drexel Online University gives estimates of costs on their websites, so one can plan on paying about $21,000 a year for graduate fees and about $13,800 for undergraduate, for the physical campus. The online degree prices should either be thereabouts or slightly less.

Why you should study there and my recommendations

Drexel Online University is part of Drexel University which has a proud and good history, with no known controversies and a long standing history of research and good academia. There are no reasons why you should not study there if you are considering research, nursing and health, business adminstration or engineering. More research should be done before you dive into doing anything, of course. Nonetheless, Drexel Online University offers good courses in various fields for bachelors, masters and certificate programmes and should be a good choice for you to consider seriously. The usual benefits and good qualities of studying online are obviously here as well, the rapid job and career opportunities and promotions, the time and money saved, as well as the happiness and pleasure of completing further education fast and efficiently are also good factors for considering getting an online degree or education with Drexel Online University. It is a relatively new college and was established in 1973 primarily for working students and professionals who want to get a degree and higher level qualifications and a higher level education. Charter Oak State College is Connecticut's major online public college and offers online degrees and online qualifications of course. There are many courses and programmes offered for students, and Charter Oak State College offers video and online courses for both online students and distance learners. In fact, Charter Oak State College is primarily a distance learning college and focuses mainly on distance and online learning. This is a key difference and distinction about Charter Oak State College that makes it different from other universities offering online degrees and distance learning, in a sense.

Which courses are offered

In general, there are a few major degrees offered, and there are also a few specialty courses and programmes offered by Charter Oak State College. Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees are offered by Charter Oak State College, as well as Bachelors of Arts and Bachelors of Science degrees. There are also certified professional programmes in Project Management, Computer Security, and Public Safety Administration and other associated and related courses. As for the specialty programmes, new courses and programmes are also offered for the needs of the students and the like such as Home Care nursing and the Pharmacist Refresher Course.

Having a quick look at Charter Oak State College's online website, I found that the course offers for online degrees were mainly limited to education, health and project management. There are degree programmes here at Charter Oak State College for the education, health and project management fields, there are certificate programmes and credential programmes for education, health and project management too, and health care courses and credentials are in a separate category for Charter Oak State College. There seems to be a major focus here on pharmacy. More research and more looking into this type of online education and online qualifications would be necessary, but if you are not doing any degree in pharmacy, education, health and project management, then Charter Oak State College may not be what you are looking for. If you are looking for these subjects and courses and you are in fact a pharmacist, Charter Oak State College's offers of professional accreditation and credentials will be incredible for your career and your occupation.

Finance and other matters

There are three major fees here: an application fee, a matriculation fee and a graduation fee, for your degree completion for both online degrees and distance learning courses. There are also online tuition fees for the video and the online learning courses. The fees vary from distance learning to online degrees, and also vary according to the level of the university degree. Connecticut residents get a discount on most of the fees and price discrimination works in their favour for both online degrees and distance learning courses.

There are also, of course, financial aid in terms of loans and bursaries and scholarships for Charter Oak State College as per many other USA universities. And there is also an agreement and benefit for US military personnel as well, but this may have been removed. More research is required if you happen to have financial difficulties, because not a lot of information is available from Charter Oak State College.

Why you should study there and my personal recommendations

Charter Oak State College seems to be a rather good university for distance learning and online degrees, but I would recommend it only to people interested in getting either a pharmacy certification, education, health and/or project management degrees. Charter Oak State College seems to be very good in these areas. More research and more exploration is necessary, before a decision is reached. Immediately, right off the bat, I can honestly say that Kaplan University Online offers the biggest range of student choices for bachelors, masters and certificate programmes for all the online university courses and degrees that I have researched on. I have read up and researched on quite a number of universities so far, as you can see here on my Get Your University Online blog, but Kaplan University Online is one of the best in terms of its range of offers so far. When I reached their website and checked out their range of offers for online programmes, I was quite impressed because of the range and diversity of their offers. Incredible!

There are offers at Kaplan University Online for

Arts and Sciences, for instance Psychology and Communication which are the two major key offerings for Kaplan University Online;

Business, for instance Accountancy and Management among many many other programmes and choices,

Criminal Justice,

Education, in all sorts of fields and all sorts of credited certification for teachers,

Health Sciences, in particular Health and Wellness and Nutrition at Kaplan University Online,

IT and Technology, one of the biggest fields on offer seems to be with Kaplan University Online, although I haven't reviewed all the universities in the world offering IT yet, but currently one of the biggest offerings of IT courses that I have seen for the online degree industry,

and Continuing Education, which has areas such as IT, Business and Finance, and Health Care. Interesting and diverse, nicht wahr?

Most of the time I also answer the why study here of all places question. In this case I'd mention the range and diversity of the courses, but that is not a sufficient answer. The answer that Kaplan University Online gives is:

Since 1937 Kaplan University has been a premier education provider, and with dedicated advisors online, educators with real world knowledge and experience online, innovative learning techniques online, and a vast library online, many people receive a sterling education with Kaplan University Online. For instance, one interesting thing could be the web field trips, where field trips can be conducted online.

Applications are considered based upon a pass bachelors degree for attempting masters courses and a high school diploma or equivalent for undergraduate studies or certificates. These are just general rules and the academic advisors should be able to provide better information, and just look around their site in order to find out more information.
