There are different types of financial aid available, and they are in the form of grants, loans, scholarships, alternative loans and even work-study schemes. Provided below are some useful information for you to get a glimpse of the financial options which you may want to utilize.

Grants
The following grants do not have to be repaid.
•Federal Pell Grant
•Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
•Frank O'Bannon Grant
•21st Century Scholarship
•SSACI National Guard

Federal Pell Grant
Up to US$5,350 is granted depending on the financial need of the student, as determined by the financial aid department from your FAFSA. Full-time enrollment is required for the full award.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
The amount varies and is based on exceptional need, Pell Grant eligibility, and the amount of money appropriated by Congress for the current budget year.

Frank O'Bannon Grant
The above is a state program that helps with tuition fees and it is solely based on need. The amount of money the student can receive varies each year, depending on the total sum of money available and the number of students who apply. The student must be enrolled full-time.

21st Century Scholarship
The above is a state program to help low-income families. The enrollment in this program is done in either 7th or 8th grade and the student must be enrolled full-time.

SSACI National Guard
The above is a state grant that covers up to 15 credits of certain tuition costs for eligible members of the Indiana Air and Army National Guard. To be eligible for this grant, the student applicant must be certified by both the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI) and the Indiana National Guard (ING), and also attend a state-funded college or university.

Loans
The following have to be repaid.
•Federal Stafford Loan
•Federal Perkins Loan
•Federal Parent PLUS Loan

Federal Stafford Loan
The above is a Federal program. First-year eligibility enables loans of up to US$5500; greater loans are allowed for second and third year students. The interest rate is set annually by Congress (2009-2010 = 5.6%). Basically, there are two types of Federal Stafford loans:
1. Subsidized loan – no interest accumulates until repayment starts; repayment is deferred for six months after graduation or dropping below half-time status.
2. Unsubsidized loan – interest is charged immediately; the student can pay interest while in school or let it accumulate until repayment starts, and repayment would be deferred as in the subsidized loan.

Federal Perkins Loan
The above is also a Federal program. Loans of up to US$2,500 per year can be given, with a 5% interest rate charged. Repayment begins nine months after the student graduates or leaves school.

Federal Parent PLUS Loan
Parents of dependent students will be offered a PLUS loan. To apply for this loan, one must fill out the Parent PLUS Loan Application with only one parent’s information. A Master Promissory Note will then be sent by the lender and must be returned to the lender when completed. The interest rate is set annually by Congress (2009-2010 = 8.5%). Repayment starts sixty days after the second disbursement. Credit check is then conducted by the lender. If a parent’s application is denied by the lender, the student is eligible for an additional unsubsidized Stafford loan of up to US$4,000 per annum.

Some of the scholarships available for students at Vincennes University are listed below.

Alternative Loans
The alternative loans are sometimes called private education loans. Terms and conditions, as well as interest rates vary according to lender. Eligibility for these loans is based on credit-worthiness as determined by the lender. If taken in the name of a student who has no credit history or poor credit history, a credit-worthy co-signer is needed.

Work-Study
Work-study is a Federal Program and the dollar amount is solely based on financial need. Work-study pays minimum wage for university jobs, and a student is allowed to work up to 20 hours a week during the academic year, depending on the student's eligibility. Some work-study positions could be served through off-campus community service. You can put forward your inquiries at the Career Center or the Financial Aid office for hassle-free information off-campus. Federal Work-Study enables the student to work with a flexible schedule and receive a bi-weekly paycheck from the university. However, it is not automatically applied toward tuition and fees.

Last but not least, after going through the list of options I have highlighted here and if you still need further detailed information on the available financial assistance options and opportunities, you may also contact their financial aid coordinators. The people in the financial aid department will be most willing to lend their helping hand to clarify your doubts.

Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS) is a private graduate school located in North Chicago, Illinois, USA. It is located to the south of the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and the North Chicago VA Hospital. All these make for interesting history!

RFUMS, then known as The Chicago Hospital-College of Medicine was founded in Chicago by a group of physicians and community leaders. The Medical College of Georgia - University Review

The Medical College of Georgia - University Review

A Brief Look at the University - The Medical College of Georgia

First and foremost, I must apologise for this post - there is not much information available about the Medical College of Georgia online. Apart from their main website, which was unaccessible to me on many occasions (which suggests that they may need improvements in that area), Medical College of Georgia materials available freely online are few. As such, I will quickly give a brief overview of the university and cover a few of the standard main points about it, and then go on to the next university evaluation, which is normally much better and more worthy of consideration. I apologise for this post, and all information is from either peer reviewed sources or from Wikipedia, compiled from the main site from the Medical College of Georgia. Well, at least, unlike most other writers, I am honest and tell you when I think that the information is insufficient here! :) Besides, you can always read my more complete analyses of better universities which offer more information for me to work with, here on this site, using my useful right sidebar.

Without further ado:

The Medical College of Georgia is also known as MCG and is a public medical university located in Georgia, in the USA. MCG is the state's only health sciences and health industry university, and therefore is the local monopoly there, offering both online courses as well as physical campus courses, of course. The main bulk of the Medical College of Georgia's offerings are physical campus degrees and there seems to be only a few online courses available, so that might be a major consideration for students who intend to only get their degrees online. This means that the Medical College of Georgia is a good university but not good for online degrees.

The university is one of the best in terms of America's best hospitals and one of the better hospital/ healthcare/ occupational and physical therapy and research places. There are definitely many accolades for the physical campus degrees offered at the Medical College of Georgia, and there are no known issues and no known controversies surrounding the Medical College of Georgia. In 2004 and 2005, the Medical College of Georgia won many other awards, such as resuming education awards for human resource management and National Research Corp's 2005 Consumer Choice Awards - in other words, this is a great university.

Which University Courses are offered at the Medical College of Georgia

Every aspect of healthcare and medicine and medical studies is covered here at the Medical College of Georgia - every aspect is covered here indeed, from dentistry to nursing to medicine. In other words, the Medical College of Georgia is basically a comprehensive and complete medical school for both applied medicine, research and all other allied medical fields and allied related fields as well.

One might also note that the Medical College of Georgia is very good for research and branching out into several fields.

Finance and other important matters at the Medical College of Georgia

As I apologised for earlier, this information is not freely found online (correct as at early 2009), as I have checked the sites and all other related sites and found most sites useless or ineffectual in giving this information. I would say that the standard loans and standard US grants and such and such still apply, but unlike other analyses I cannot say that with certainty. More research has to be done in this field, and perhaps when I have completed with the other universities, I will write on this topic again. Sorry!

Why you should study there and my other personal opinions and recommendations

Clearly the Medical College of Georgia is an excellent medical school. Clearly the students there at the physical campus are clever and motivated students. Clearly one who lives near there and wishes to gain a first class education and a top degree should study there. Their academic track record suggests that.

However, for an online degree, the Medical College of Georgia does very badly - insufficient information for the researcher is provided (me, namely), and most of the information is not freely available. In addition, as I understand it, not all the degrees are offered. Some are offered only for physical campuses, and some are limited to online degrees, and some have to be applied to online.

A. T. Still University was established in 1892, and is a foremost leading university in the USA for health and health sciences/ health education. A. T. Still University is based in Missouri, and actually is a combination of four schools into one university. A. T. Still University offers both degrees from its physical ground campuses and also online degrees. A. T. Still University is accredited and its medical, health management and health education degrees are recognised and accepted widely and especially in the USA. A. T. Still University also offers dentistry degrees, but online degrees are usually limited to masters and post graduate degrees and hence a bachelors or basic degree for dentistry is not offered online.

A. T. Still University is established, good and well known, and has no known controversies. As a disclaimer, which should be understood quite well by many of my loyal readers and information seekers: All the information about this university and its online degrees are correct and accurate as at 2008, but more research and more information should be looked into if you are interested in A. T. Still University. This evaluation article is just a basic primer and does not substitute for your detailed knowledge and up to date information about A. T. Still University, which can only be obtained by writing to the university itself. You have to make the choice if it is A. T. Still University's medical or health education degrees that you want or another subject or another university's degrees, and the like. The decision is yours, and I hope I helped you in making an informed decision.

Which courses are offered at A. T. Still University

Being a dental college and medical school, A. T. Still University offers mainly degrees in the medicine and life sciences. All the degrees offered at A. T. Still University are accredited and recognised.

Doctorates in health education, audiology, physical therapy are offered.

Masters programmes are offered for occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, geriatric health, health administration, health education, and public health.

There are also certificate programmes offered here at A. T. Still University:

education and leadership, clinical medicine, and geriatric health.

There are no basic degrees offered online, for after all, A. T. Still University is a medical and health education university. More information should be gathered and more research should be done.

Finance and other matters at A. T. Still University

Just like other universities, A. T. Still University offers financial aid and financial loans for education and assisting students to get their online degrees and physical campus degrees. Standard USA loans, financial aid plans and scholarships are also available, just like other university degrees and other online degree learning programmes. A. T. Still University has also, furthermore, many other programmes and financial plans that are detailed on the A. T. Still University website.

Why you should study there and my personal recommendations

In the field of healthcare, health education and medical education, A. T. Still University is one of the major players in both the online education arena and the physical universities in the USA. A. T. Still University is a good place to study for medical degrees for both dentistry and health management/ health education and the like. I would strongly recommend A. T. Still University if you wish to pursue a subject or an online degree for masters and doctorate in this particular field. On the right sidebar on my website, you may find more links for other universities which also offer medical degrees, and online degrees in the fields of education, health education, medical management and the like.

At the same time, A. T. Still University is also a good place to study because it designs its courses such that a professional can pursue his job and his medical, dentistry etc career while studying. A. T. Still University therefore enhances the education and the learning of a medical student and a medical practitioner. Hence, A. T. Still University is a very good university for masters and doctor degrees.

All the best, and do conduct more research before jumping into any one particular university for your online education and online degree! There are many medical universities and health education programmes here on this site, so do enjoy your research. Cheers.

Charter Oak State College Online Degrees

Charter Oak State College (Online) degrees review

Brief look at the university

Charter Oak State College is a liberal arts college in the USA based in Connecticut in a suburban setting. The motto is very intersting: "Degrees without Boundaries" and might offer some suggested insights into the university's policies about distance learning and online university degrees. It is a relatively new college and was established in 1973 primarily for working students and professionals who want to get a degree and higher level qualifications and a higher level education. Charter Oak State College is Connecticut's major online public college and offers online degrees and online qualifications of course. There are many courses and programmes offered for students, and Charter Oak State College offers video and online courses for both online students and distance learners. In fact, Charter Oak State College is primarily a distance learning college and focuses mainly on distance and online learning. This is a key difference and distinction about Charter Oak State College that makes it different from other universities offering online degrees and distance learning, in a sense.

Which courses are offered

In general, there are a few major degrees offered, and there are also a few specialty courses and programmes offered by Charter Oak State College. Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees are offered by Charter Oak State College, as well as Bachelors of Arts and Bachelors of Science degrees. There are also certified professional programmes in Project Management, Computer Security, and Public Safety Administration and other associated and related courses. As for the specialty programmes, new courses and programmes are also offered for the needs of the students and the like such as Home Care nursing and the Pharmacist Refresher Course.

Having a quick look at Charter Oak State College's online website, I found that the course offers for online degrees were mainly limited to education, health and project management. There are degree programmes here at Charter Oak State College for the education, health and project management fields, there are certificate programmes and credential programmes for education, health and project management too, and health care courses and credentials are in a separate category for Charter Oak State College. There seems to be a major focus here on pharmacy. More research and more looking into this type of online education and online qualifications would be necessary, but if you are not doing any degree in pharmacy, education, health and project management, then Charter Oak State College may not be what you are looking for. If you are looking for these subjects and courses and you are in fact a pharmacist, Charter Oak State College's offers of professional accreditation and credentials will be incredible for your career and your occupation.

Finance and other matters

There are three major fees here: an application fee, a matriculation fee and a graduation fee, for your degree completion for both online degrees and distance learning courses. There are also online tuition fees for the video and the online learning courses. The fees vary from distance learning to online degrees, and also vary according to the level of the university degree. Connecticut residents get a discount on most of the fees and price discrimination works in their favour for both online degrees and distance learning courses.

There are also, of course, financial aid in terms of loans and bursaries and scholarships for Charter Oak State College as per many other USA universities. And there is also an agreement and benefit for US military personnel as well, but this may have been removed. More research is required if you happen to have financial difficulties, because not a lot of information is available from Charter Oak State College.

Why you should study there and my personal recommendations

Charter Oak State College seems to be a rather good university for distance learning and online degrees, but I would recommend it only to people interested in getting either a pharmacy certification, education, health and/or project management degrees. Charter Oak State College seems to be very good in these areas. More research and more exploration is necessary, before a decision is reached. There are many online degree courses, offers, universities and their reviews here on my Get Your University Degree Online blog. Cheers!

Benedictine University Online Degree

Benedictine University Online Degree review

Brief Look at the University (Benedictine University Online)

Benedictine University was founded in 1887 in Chicago, Illinois and is apparently one of the better universities in the midwest in the United States of America. Benedictine University Online is the online version of their physical campus and offers masters degrees in a few areas, much more limited than Kaplan and Phoenix online degree programmes obviously. No need to worry as usual; the degrees that you get online for the programmes are equivalent to those you will receive at the ground, physical campus.

Which courses are offered

MBA, MPH, MED and Dual MBA/ MPH are all offered here at Benedictine University Online. These mean: Masters of business administration, Masters of public health, Masters of Education and a dual Masters programme. All the degrees offered here at the Benedictine University Online are Masters programmes and there are no bachelors or basic associate degrees and the like. The concentration of the online department here seems to be entirely on Masters programmes.

The online MBA offered by Benedictine University Online prepares students with leadership skills, managerial decision making skills, financial management skills, strategic planning skills and more. This might be worth a look.

The online MPH has specialisations in good fields such as Administration of Health Care Institutions, Disaster Management, Health Policy, Health Education and the like, and these are modules and courses that you may be very interested in. This field sounds very interesting and will help you in a related career, definitely.

For educators, the MED is very important and will help educators in the field of education, both theoretical and practical. Being from Singapore's Ministry of Education myself, this might be useful to you only if you intend to pursue a long career in education, but not that useful due to its narrow specialisation. Just a friendly warning for some...

Finally, the dual track or the dual MBA/ MPH will combine the analytical skills of the MBA and the healthcare focus and aims of the MPH into a single and very powerful dual degree. For more details, do check up Benedictine University Online if you are interested in such a university course.

Finance and other matters (scholarships and aid)

There are scholarships and other financial aid programmes available to assist you in getting your online degree from Benedictine University Online. In addition, the costs of Benedictine University Online are rather low and hence you don't have to worry about paying through the nose. However, I would still recommend checking up Phoenix and Kaplan Online to have a look at their price ranges first, as price comparisons should always be made fresh and up to date.

Why you should study there or my personal recommendations

Benedictine University Online tells you their reasons why you should get your online defree from them. Their courses are convenient, just like all other online degree programmes, with everything to do online, they have an interactive online environment with a virtual classroom setting, they have generous financial aid programmes with very affordable fees (according to their website), and Benedictine University Online is accredited by NCA (North Central Association of Colleges and Schools). In addition, there are small class sizes and Benedictine University Online is after all a private and top-tier school. My personal recommendation is that this may be a very good choice for Masters students, obviously, as it bears no relevance whatsoever for those looking for bachelors, associate degrees and PhD programmes. In addition, the Dual programme looks very interesting and that would be the online degree that I would personall want to look around and check up on, as it might be useful. All in all, I'd say that Benedictine University Online is one of the better choices for Masters and the Dual programme would be something that gives students an edge in the global economy. Might be worth a long, hard look!
